The setting at an urban and human scale through analysis.
The Amaranth Alley
Organized on this page are a larger scale project and a 20 year proposal to engage the community.
Conversations with Dave Boucher and Muneer Bahauddeen, as well as the community members through our alley interventions projects, clarify that a communal space is desired by surrounding neighborhood residents.

Adding a value to a common urban space.
By using the inactive and unoccupied garages, we could make the alley more active. Creating an active space allows for more interaction within the surrounding neighborhood which adds value into the physical space.
Architectural section allows us to see the entire building and its relation to the alley's linear composition. Through human scale, the void on the lower level allows for connectivity into the alley .
Architectural section shows the alley's potential for a built space. The left side of the building allows for trees and a sitting area on the hill, connecting the pathway to the physical building.
The ground floor acts a a direct connection between the alleyway and its adjacent green spaces. The ground floor could hold community meeting areas such as learning spaces, classrooms, event spaces, market stalls, and shops.

The second floor is designed as studio apartments. The studio residents would have the option to manage the lower portion of the building. The upper level could change over time, becoming extensions of the level below allowing for increased public life as the alley project becomes successful.

The living spaces on the upper level include a bed space and a patio space overlooking the alley. Much like the second floor, the third floor space could become an extension to the floors below.
