The purpose of this project is to conceive and implement a plan to utilize and adapt two current institutional buildings located along Vliet Street into one building over time. By doing so, this project seeks to create a hybrid architecture for community resources, income, networking, and health that will generate a sense of ownership, empowerment, and equity among the many cultural groups residing in this neighborhood.
How can manipulating building spaces encourage leaders and important stakeholders in the community to come together? This project will address this question by envisioning an environment that is flexible, both in terms of its use and structure. This flexibility will enhance the capacity of this building to engage users and local residents in an equitable manner and be resilient and adaptable so as to accommodate cultural difference and change over time.
This map shows important pathways, landmarks, edges, and nodes of the site .It helps to identify where exactly would be the best center point for developing an adaptive reuse design and which buildings be best case studies for such a project.
